Краткое описание
Описание
English: King Alfonso XIII of Spain stands next to his Duesenberg Model J Hibbard & Darrin Town Car. The King's mechanic and chauffeur, Antonio Sambeat Anglada is at the wheel.
According to the Barcelona press, the Marquis of Pateras-Pescara (Raúl Pateras Pescara) imported this car into Spain via Barcelona in May 1930. The automobile was purchased by the King from the Marquis, who presented the Model J to the King in September 1930.
The next story was excerpted from the issue nº 5 (June-July 1989) of the defunct Spanish automobile magazine AutoEstilo, article by Ramón Roca:
(...) That night (14th-15th April 1931), thus, from 9 p.m. to 4 in the morning, the Duesenberg saw the journey from Madrid to Cartagena in that convoy where two Cadillac and one Hispano-Suiza went with Mr. Alfonso. He drove his Duesenberg accompanied by the Prince Alfonso de Orleans (...).
The dethroned King, after the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic on 14th April 1931, went to exile with this car. Already out of Spain, in the magazine "Semana" there is a picture of Alfonso getting out of this motorcar on the occasion of the death of his relative, Don Jaime de Borbón, Duke of Madrid, happened on the 2nd October 1931 in Paris. After this date its whereabouts remains a mystery.
